The course “Hot Paint for Cold War, 1946–1956” tries to show the close relationships established between the United States and France during the Cold War period, and how Western art that was produced during the Cold War, an era in which abstract expressionism predominated, was much more diverse and stimulating than art history has traditionally portrayed it. SON[I]A speaks with Serge Guilbaut, director of the course and curator of the exhibition “Be-bomb: the Transatlantic War of Images and All That Jazz, 1946–1956”.
