Son[i]a #43

The exhibition “A Theatre without Theatre” explores the relations and interchanges between the theatre and the visual arts over the course of the 20th century. The exhibition suggests a critical reading of the consequences generated by this input for art, highlighting key moments and artists in itineraries that go beyond a mere linear chronology to build up a complex fabric: from Hugo Ball and Dada to Mike Kelley; from Oskar Schlemmer to Dan Graham; from minimalism to the post-minimalist generations, as represented by Bruce Naumann and James Coleman.

This SON[I]A features MACBA director Manuel J. Borja-Villel’s thoughts on the show, the idea of the theatrical in the visual arts, the changes that this brought to the concept of art in the second half of the 20th century, and the show’s thesis of rethinking modernity.
