Isidoro Valcárcel Medina’s body of work comprises a small labyrinth of films, sound pieces, actions, architectural projects, books and other pieces that defy classification, and blurs the boundaries between conceptual exercise and critical reflection.

Often closer to philosophy than art, Valcárcel Medina has always been a socially committed creator who has tried to keep a certain distance between his work and art market speculation. To him, ‘art only makes sense if it makes us aware of and responsible for a personal reality, usually through the game of art itself.’

Taking his works in the MACBA Collection and his piece for the project ‘Constitucíon 1812’ as a starting point, Son[i]a talks to Isidoro Valcárcel Medina about the market, technocracy and responsibility.
