With the recent change of Director at the MACBA, the program for the 2008-2009 season shows that there will be some degree of continuity along the Museum’s previous lines, but also some changes. The programmed exhibitions will be joined by new types of exhibition formats and the Collection will be opened up to include recent works. There are also plans to update the critical discourses around art and the archival and documentary work that is carried out by the Museum's Study and Documentation Centre.

Another strong point is the MACBA's particular interest in the Mediterranean area as a relatively unfamiliar place for cultural interchange, by forming networks with other countries in the region.

Bartomeu Marí talks to Son[i]a about some of the highlights of the coming season at the MACBA, always from the perspective of the Museum as a critical apparatus, not simply a “machine for exhibiting”.
