With the consolidation of Spain as a tourist destination following World War II, it became necessary to design an official promotional policy for the country based on images and slogans affirming that "Spain is different”.

As the key element of the campaign, photography acted as a catalyst for the creation of a catalogue of Spain's "beauties" and drove many photographers to generate documentary work in response to the need for a whole new circuit of images to promote tourism.

The MACBA course The Image of Spain. Photography and Tourism, 1951-1977, offered an analysis of this phenomenon which brought together photography and tourism within the context of Franco's regime.

Son[i]a interviews Carmelo Vega, the director of the course.
