Bartomeu Marí (Ibiza, 1966) is the new director of the MACBA, and with this change the museum begins a new phase following Manuel Borja-Villel’s direction. His former post as head curator of the museum leaves him well aware of the museum’s ongoing discourse as a center of theoretical production and debate in addition to an exhibition space.

This time Son[i]a speaks with Bartomeu Marí to tackle some of the central issues around which the museum revolves and his relation to the courses of action which the MACBA will be following under his directives from now on. Marí's nomination, although it maintains a certain continuity, supposes a change in the museum’s perspective which will affect the various elements that make up the structure of the museum, emphasizing the relationship between art and the present with an artistic dimension that succeeds in reconciling aesthetics and knowledge.
