Based on LP record format, “Vinyl: Records and Covers by Artists” addresses the links that exist between contemporary artistic practices and experimental sound production. Experimenting with other models of presentation and reception of the exhibition concept, this display presents a comprehensive archive of sound and graphic productions which, from the first audio explorations of the 1920s to the most recent sound experiments, trace an alternative route through the history of art based on its relationship with sound. This SON[I]A speaks with Guy Schraenen, curator of the exhibition, about the record as an object of art, the relationship between sound and the museum, and the art of collecting.
