In recent years, a wave of musical forms has given rise to a new name, the "Barcelona sound", a hybrid made up of many different styles, such as reggae, funk, hip-hop, rock, etc. Long before this phenomenon emerged, though, jazz was seen as the genre that best seemed to symbolise the disappearance of the old divisions between high avant-garde culture and popular culture. The "¿Sonido Barcelona?" ("Barcelona Sound?") concert season pitches together seven musicians active on the local scene in three different groups with different geographic origins and playing styles.

This SON[I]A talks with Llibert Fortuny, sax player and performer in the "¿Sonido Barcelona?" season about the stylistic freedom that characterises the participants, the universal language of jazz and improvisation. The programme also features pieces from Llibert Fortuny Electric Quintet's latest recording, "Double Step".
